Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
£16.00–£17.50 per hour | Monday to Friday | Full-time | CPD-accredited training provided

Do you have experience supporting learners and feel ready to take the next step?

Aspira Education is hiring Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) to support pupils and teachers in Derbyshire schools. This is an ideal opportunity for experienced TAs, learning mentors, or those with HLTA status who are confident leading group activities or stepping in to cover lessons when needed.

You’ll be joining schools where your expertise will be valued, and where you can make a real impact.

About the Role

As an HLTA, you’ll:

  • Deliver small-group and occasional whole-class lessons under teacher direction
  • Support SEND and vulnerable pupils with targeted interventions
  • Assist with planning, progress monitoring, and adapting activities to learner needs
  • Provide in-class support and lead breakout sessions across subjects
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and inclusion teams to raise achievement

You’ll work full-time, Monday to Friday during term time, in a mainstream or specialist school setting.

What We’re Looking For

You’ll need:

  • Proven experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
  • Confidence to lead activities and manage groups independently
  • A calm, professional presence and strong communication skills
  • A good understanding of SEND and inclusive learning practices

We welcome qualified HLTAs and experienced support staff ready to step into this more senior role.

All applicants must have:

  • The right to work in the UK
  • A clear Enhanced DBS (or be willing to apply for one)
  • Two recent references
  • A willingness to complete free online safeguarding training

What You’ll Get

  • £16.00–£17.50 per hour (paid weekly via Parasol – our FCSA-accredited umbrella partner)
  • Free CPD-accredited training via the Aspira Training Academy
  • Guidance on managing small groups, SEND strategies, and classroom leadership
  • Ongoing support from a team who knows the classroom first-hand

Why Join Aspira?

Aspira Education is a Derbyshire-based, REC-accredited SEND agency led by a qualified teacher and national recruiter. We believe in raising standards, not just filling gaps.

Whether you’re an HLTA or ready to become one — we’ll help you grow your impact.

Safeguarding Commitment

Aspira Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All candidates must be willing to undergo safeguarding and background checks, including an Enhanced DBS.
